What is SEM?

Search engine marketing or SEM is an internet based marketing practice, where one is paid according to search engine results. This means that the results of a particular keyword entered in the search box of a particular search engine should appear as close as possible to the top of the page through bidding on the position. Payments are only made when someone clicks on the ad.

SEM is very different from SEO as SEO focuses on organically driving traffic to a particular website. This is done through inserting backlinks to the content so that it can appear higher in the search engine result pages or SERPs.

Search engine marketing encompasses both creative and technical elements. These features assist in improving drive traffic, the quality of your score as well as increasing the awareness in search engines.

SEM has many aspects which range from the words included to the website to the wording on the ad. At times, search engine marketing results can be improved by arranging your site to ensure that it is structured in a way to indicate that it matches the keyword and the visitor can easily get the results they are looking for.

What you do with the visitors who arrive at your website is a crucial aspect of SEM. Mostly, a lot of people do search engine marketing, and they fail to focus on what they want to do with the visitors who arrive at their sites. This leads to wastage in money and significant opportunities.

Reasons for SEM

  • It can provide instant results – search engine marketing can assist your products or services to gain quick exposure.
  • It takes a while for SEM to achieve results. However, it is a great way of marketing products and services while waiting for the optimization to catch-up. This allows one not to waste time which can be gained by internet presence.
  • Search engine marketing assists in targeting specific audiences in the shortest time possible. By using specific keywords in your adverts, you can easily attract visitors looking for that product.
